Salmon Glacier in Alaska

WRDAFUGAHWENOW STEWART Finally, no smoke and we are off to Stewart. Wow what a beautiful drive, especially when you get close to Stewart. The mountains and the scenery become more and more stunning. So grand, green and lush. All the waterfalls and glaciers are so pretty. It was funny because we got a DVD from the Smithers library and the kids were watching it during the drive. I asked Adam to stop so I could get some pictures of the scenery, which do not do any of it justice, and the kids are like “why did we stop?” I told them to look around. “Whoa” they said! They quickly proceeded to jump out of the car to look around. I hope I can steer the boys towards appreciating the beauty of where we are and where we live.  Stewart is so cute but so run down. The old buildings have character, but there are no new buildings to bring in revitalization. I feel for this beautiful town. You can tell everyone knows everyone as it has a steady population of about 500 people. 50 kids are in sch...

Smithers

Smithers   I want to let you know I did not mean to make my last post so sad. Many people sent me love and words of encouragement.  I just felt that I needed to let my true feelings come thru as not everything is unicorns and rainbows, even at home or when your on vacation. Appreciate all the feedback. We decided on camping at the municipal campground here as it’s location is great. It is next to the river and walking to town was an option. One App I have recently downloaded and find full of information is iOverlander. This is an app that gives you info on all the free, provincial and private campgrounds, along with all the amenities one would need when travelling. Like laundry! Who knew- $14 is a large load of clothes washed and dried.  After talking with the local park operator, who came to Smithers for a vacation and never left, she recommended some appealing things to do. We quickly added them to our future agenda. We woke up the next day to another semi-s...

Continuing on... Prince George

After 4 full days in Bella Coola we were off to PG. That is where my brother lives. It was an 8.5 hour drive. We planned to stop at Horn, and Bluff Lakes for some fishing and swimming. This was a very strong recommendation from the Williams Lake people I met in Bella Coola. So we packed a lunch because there really are no places to stopper food between Bella Coola and Williams Lake. However, once we got on the road to go see the cousins, there was not much that would have enticed the kids to stop. The cousins were a huge draw.   It always circles back to the people you want to spend time with. People you surround yourself with make the time fun. Really hoping to finding that joy up North too. So we powered thru and missed Bluff lake. Maybe next time. PG = a week with a nice bed, hot shower, friends, cousins, and good times ahead.  Prince George was great as always. Trips to Ness Lake for boating and lake life,  mountain biking at Pidherny (a recommendation if you like ...

Bella Coola - by Natalie

The kids will eventually be adding their experiences and doing their own entires on this blog. They have reminded me that they are still on Summer holidays and that blog entries are like school work. 😆       We took the Ferry from Port Hardy to Bella Coola ($1000 for a 10 hour ferry), however; the Ferry turned out to be quite the experience. We saw Otters, Seals, Orcas, Humpback whales, and even porpoises playing in the wake of the boat.   The inner passage was so beautiful with the mountains and green water. The water was greener than Kalamalka lake.      BELLA COOLA After the long day at Sea, we arrived in Bella Coola and got to our campsite at Rip Rap Campground. What a great set up. The best part of this campground was definitely the people camping here.  Why is that??? Well, back when we were getting excited for this trip I realized I couldn’t plan 13 months of travel. Adam and I decided that google was not go...

And We Are Off!      June 27, We finally got on the road!  Most of you know it has been a long time coming! I was almost resenting that dang garage! But she does look pretty all done, right? Pretty is overrated now that I had to do all the work. However, it was my idea to do the brick. Sorry Adam!  Before I begin documenting this trip, some back story many of you will already know, the idea for this trip came back when the kids were 2/4 and they are now 8/10.  We felt that this trip was attainable once we had the funds and a place to store all of our stuff a year. So selling our house and building a garage at the 70’s home were key components to making this trip happen. The selling part, surprisingly, was the easiest part. I guess timing really is everything( and a little prayer thrown in for good measure💛).  Then came the garage. Oh man was I out to lunch when it came to guessing how much it would cost and the effort involved. Wh...
