The kids already did their blog highlights for Yellowstone National Park, but here are mine. We took La Jefa for a cruise thru Yellowstone from the west entrance all the way to Mammoth Hot Springs (northwest corner) on our first day in the park. First, we stopped at the Norris Geyser Basin area where we saw many of the active geysers.  Ranger Dan put on a a little talk to explain the 4 types of geological events that occur within Yellowstone: mud pots, thermals, geysers and hot springs. The reason Yellowstone is so active is that it runs along a fault line that is constantly shifting. I did not know it was a super Volcano until researching it. Yellowstone estimates that 50 million people will have come to visit this park this year. CRAZY! That’s more than all of Canada.  I think we lucked out that the weather was less than ideal and that it was after summer holidays, becasue I could not imagine the crowds being much worse than they already were. I saw Old Faithful. The geyser shoot hot water out of its  hole.I saw one just befor Old Faithful eruopt from its hole. I saw my farst ever elk and when we were heding back to the campgrawund. We saw anuther one. We went back becus we thoght that Thay wuod fite with thar antlers to see who wuod win the cow Elk. But the seckond whan was a chikin and he ran aweh and ran for good. Then we walk the mamith hot springs. When we ware done we went back to are campgrawnd for are lastnight ther. In the moning we did a bit of scooling. Today I saw the first  bull elk of my life.It was a six point.  Apparantley he already hit a car earlier that day. A park ranger said that he was eight years old.The bull elk had 30 cows and 3 calfs in his herd. We almost saw him fight with the lone bull . The lone bull tried to steal the local bulls cows. It was so cool to see them bugling back and forth.The elk are way bigger than you think.Their rack is so cool to see in real life! We saw the elk around 5:00 or 6:00 pm,at Mammath Hot Springs.That is probably the coolest animal I have ever seen in my life! We sat there and watched the elk for quite some time.There was lots of people watching including ourselves. I had a awesome time today and I hope I get to see that stuff again my life. Thanks so very much to everyone we got to visit during our time home! We had a whirlwind two weeks.We reconfigured the sleeping arrangements in the motorhome and did some yard work so that 60-120 peach trees can be planted this spring. Thanks to everyone who helped us accomplish these goals and for the visits in between.   While we were home, Adam had a chance to take the boys out hunting. Wyatt is 10 this year and has completed his C.O.R.E. course so it was his first chance to try and get a deer. As luck would have it, he spotted a nice little mule deer buck on the evening of his first day out. A small case of nerves (“buck fever”), but he made a great shot and had his first deer down.  Gibson had his turn to go out with dad a few days later to look for some grouse. They saw quite a few, but didn’t get a chanceat them as they all flew away before we could get close. On the way back to the car they spotted a far off grouse.
