Change of Plans?

Antelope Island is a beautiful, serene place. It is winter here so no water/services, which means nobody here except the wildlife, especially the bison. They like to check out all the camping sites for leftovers (I like to think). We woke up to them 10 feet from our window.   Our heater kicked in, which scared them, and they moved on. It’s lows of -4, and there is snow in the hills. We stayed 3 nights here on the island and it was another recharge station for me. We all made Christmas gifts for the family with items we’ve collected on our journey so far. I won’t be able to post anything as most of the family reads the blog, but I will add the pictures to a later blog.   The weather was sunshine and warmth during the day, and cool in the evenings. We had to start wearing our long johns to bed to keep us warm. We can’t run the heater too much in places without power as it drains the battery. So more layers it is! As I’ve mentioned, school is better when we are ...

Rock Climbing - Wyatt

My interest in climbing started after I watched Free Solo. It is a movie where a guy named Alex Honnold climbs El Capitan (a mountain in Yosemite National Park) without any ropes to save him if he falls. So, pretty much ever since I watched that show I’ve liked climbing a lot more. What I like about climbing is that you have to play it very slow and plan your next move very carefully because if you don’t, you can find yourself in hard situations. I like to Boulder (bouldering means to climb on something short without using ropes) more than anything because you don’t have big ropes in your way and you don’t swing back and forth.            My first experience climbing on this trip was at OVERhang in Prince George. At OVERhang you could do different types of climbing. There was an area where you could do bouldering, and other areas where you could climb with a partner or use an auto belay. I thought that ...

My Visit to the Utah Parks - Gibson

In Zion we went to The Narrows hike. The Narrows is where you walk in water that is freezing cold and the water can get really high. Some people take the deepest spot and get the freezing cold water in their bibs. If you walk to the left wall it is not so deep. The water got up to my neck but it did not get in. I had a full body suit but the water came pretty high on my brother and I. The adults had bibs not full body suits. The hike was cool to experience. Your feet got really cold. Once inside Zion park you get free bus rides to any of their trails. The trails we took were Weeping Rock, and Emerald Pools. Weeping Rock is a rock that water drips off of. The Emerald Pools are 3 pools, called: Upper Pool, Lower Pool, and Middle Pool. The one I liked the most was Upper Pool because it was the biggest. After Zion park we went to Bryce Canyon. In Bryce Canyon we had to bike to get to our hike. The hike was 3 different trails, and a little too long for me. The ...

From Vegas to Mountaineering

Image
So, you CAN do Vegas with kids, it’s just not nearly the same type fun, but it’s still a good time:)  We parked our motorhome, for three nights, in a parking lot for motohomes, just off of Fremont Street. From here, we either walked or used Uber to get around, instead of taking La Jefa.  After doing a little research on what to do with kids in Vegas, without breaking the bank, we decided on a few things.  Day one was spent walking from our motorhome to Fremont Street. While we walked the street, we checked out the light display on Fremont’s outdoor ceiling and ended up at Container Park. This park is made up of shipping containers. It has a cool park area, eclectic shops, and an open, fake grassy area with music/stage. Even when no one is performing, there is still some upbeat music playing, and you can play a series of large board games on the fake grass. Checkers followed by large lego builds  were what the kids gravitated to. We all enj...
