Merry Christmas from the Baja! We are in Love 💛
When we were the first to leave on day 3, everyone came out to see us off, saying that we are Baja friends for life. It melted my heart. And, what do you know, we have all converged on the next spot at Bahia of Concepcion, Playa El Requeson. Here we are all parked along the beautiful turquoise water and are once again enjoying each other’s company. The kids were all so happy to be together again.
We have had some casualties, or should I say La Hefa has. First, we got hit by a tourist who smashed our driver’s mirror while trying to pass us, then a week later we had a flat tire. We were happily surprised at the ease with which we could get these fixed. The roads down here are as bad as they say, narrow, windy and full of pot holes, random speed bumps (I actually mean speed jumps) and missing sections, so I am feeling like we are not doing too bad.
From Requeson Beach we made it to Loreto. Here, this cute town was the picturesque vision I have of a Mexican town. I felt safe walking around and loved the quaintness and vibrancy in the streets. We went to this amazing little local food haunt and it did not disappoint. Super Burro, you are on my husband’s return to list and we will be hitting you up on our way back north.
With all the services here, and knowing we are staying for a week, we have set up camp. We’ve busted out the mini lights, and are playing festive music, while we get into the Christmas spirit
.
We booked a boat and did a fishing charter on day one. Gibson caught a Dorado (Mahi Mahi), and it was such an experience for that little guy. I should say it was an experience for me too. I did not want to go, but Adam pleaded with me to go, as my fisherman status would not hold up if I did not try. I get car sick and sea sick, but thought I’d better try. I took my Gravol, Advil and ginger tablets. The ocean is like an actual roller coaster, except it does not stop!!! The tossing and turning, and ugh… I don’t know how you fisherman do it. Even Wyatt and Dad had some stomach upsets when we stopped the boat and were just bobbing in the ocean waves. Gibson thought, my ride lover, was a rock. Never once did he have any issues. He is a born fisherman I think. To start the day off, we had a couple of Marlin eat our bait fish, but could not snag them. Then we caught a couple of Dorados. Gibson won rock/paper/scissors, so he got to reel in the first hooked fish. We had 4 rods going. He caught our biggest fish that day, a male Dorado (20-25lbs according tio the guide). Wyatt then caught a smaller female one the guide let go beacuse he said it was too small, but oh was it pretty! A more turquoise color than the yellow/green of Gibson’s. Then came the fight…. Adam had to battle a sealion for his Dorado. We won with the help of our guide, but oh man it was a struggle. After that, it was about lunch time and the fish were no longer biting, so I motioned to our guide to us to get back. I was glad I could take the pictures and document the trip, but I said to Adam, no more please. I don’t mind if you go again, but just not with me. He told me he caught me talking to myself as we were boating out in the morning, chanting, “I can do this, I can do this”, and I did. Off the bucket list, and now only shore fishing for me. Yay.
Christmas was lovely this year. Kids got spoiled, in my opinion, but were very grateful and appreciative, which melted my heart. We walked on the beach and enjoyed the overcast cooler day. During the day we video chatted with family, and wished our friends a Merry Christmas. We ended up pigging out on our stocking candy and watched a movie to finish out the night. What a lovely day. Merry Christmas to all.
